Michigan Peach Sponsors honor a pair of industry contributors

A pair of west Michigan peach growers were honored March 3 for their service to the Michigan peach industry.

Rodney Winkel and Kurt Weber were recognized by the Michigan Peach Sponsors at the Michigan Spring Peach Meeting held at the Southwest Michigan Research and Extension Center in Benton Harbor.

Winkel, of Watervliet, Michigan, was given the service to the Michigan Fruit Tree Industry Award in “honor and appreciation for his many years of counsel, guidance and mentoring to other fruit farmers, for hosting many Michigan State University research projects at Grandview Orchards and for his sage advice on many agricultural advisory boards and committees, all for the benefit and advancement of the Michigan tree fruit industry and southwest Michigan agriculture.”

Weber, of Weber Orchards near Benton Harbor, Michigan, was recognized with the Distinguished Service Awar “in honor and appreciation for his 24 years of counsel and guidance as a board member of the Michigan Peach Sponsors and for his help as a cooperator for on-farm research projects by Michigan State University scientists, all for the benefit and advancement of the Michigan tree fruit industry and southwest Michigan agriculture.”
